Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffSeptember 17, 2013If you haven't found a way to wrangle all those little notes stuck to your monitor, RightNote Portable offers a solution that lets you add, organize, and search notes with nearly any type of information and keep them on your computer. While it certainly does more than the typical sticky note, it's also much more complicated than jotting down a note and placing it on your PC or workstation.Initially, RightNote opens with a very busy interface packed with information about the program. It not only tells you what the product can do, but it also demonstrates the "notebook" style the program uses to organize your notes. The wealth of information proved useful, but it was a little overwhelming at first. Within each notebook you create, you can add as many pages as you'd like. For each note, you have numerous formatting options and styles, which allows you to add spreadsheets, text documents, link bookmarks, and more. You also can include tags to make searching easier. Each notebook is organized into a file tree similar to Windows Explorer, but with tabs and a toolbar to help you add, manage, and search your notes. While many of the features and functionality would be familiar to anyone with experience using the programs in the Microsoft Office Suite, most users will benefit from spending some time with the Help file before getting started in order to get the most from the program. With all it offers, it seems a waste to just use it to keep track of your daily to-do list or links to the Web sites you want to bookmark. You'll have 30 days to evaluate the paid product, but if you decide not to ante up, the product automatically defaults to the free version after the trial period is over. If you decide to completely uninstall the program, you'll find it leaves behind several folders and files you'll have to manually delete. We wouldn't recommend this program for the newbie, but for those who want as many options as possible for formatting and tracking information, RightNote Portable might be worth a test run.Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of RightNote Portable 2.8.
